Stay Weird

Made as a gift for my sister, I set out to design a quilt that felt like her - playful, weird and farm-loving. I identify as a “modern quilter” (beyond being a guild member) and wanted to approach a cow or farmyard quilt in a contemporary way.

The quilt’s imagery was made layer by layer, using fabrics and bias tape. The white and green background layers are machine-quilted, with big stitch hand-quilting on all other details (including on the binding). As it gets cold on the farm, the bottom half (green) is made of a wool blanket (to keep the feet warm). There is bamboo batting throughout.

Cotton, flannel and wool are sourced from Our Social Fabric (remnants from the local textile industry) or thrift. Machine and hand-bound with pink and black binding.

This is my quilt for the month of November in 2023.
